AMARILLO, Texas — A Union Pacific Railroad worker was killed after a train on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line struck the man Thursday morning.

Amarillo police responded to the 1000 block of Northeast Third Avenue at about 9:40 a.m., said Sgt. Brent Barbee.

James Quinn Wilson, 35, was riding in train cars that were being pushed when he fell out of the car he was riding in and was hit by the train, Barbee said.

No one viewed the accident because the other workers were in the engine car when Wilson fell and was struck, Barbee said.

Wilson died at the scene, Barbee said.

Zoe Richmond, spokeswoman for Union Pacific, said the railroad company could not release any details of the accident Thursday.

This was a medical call, so APD just assisted, said Sgt. Randy TenBrink. There was no criminal activity involved.
