NORFOLK, Va. — The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation said Monday it was delaying announcing a site for Norfolk Southern Corp. to build a truck-train cargo transfer terminal near Roanoke.
The agency had planned to choose a site by Monday for the controversial terminal from a list of 10 locations. No local governments expressed to the agency support for any of those sites until last week, when Salem backed one of the locations, by Va. 419.
The agency is now deferring its decision “for a little while” to more fully evaluate that site, spokeswoman Jennifer Pickett said.
