WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Mediation Board (NMB) is pleased to announce that Read Van de Water, of Warrenton, Virginia, has been named to her second term as Chairman of the National Mediation Board, effective July 1, 2008. A Member of the National Mediation Board since 2003, she first served as Chairman from July 1, 2005, through June 30, 2006.
Chairman Van de Water was sworn in as a Board Member on December 11, 2003, after being nominated by President George W. Bush in September, and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on December 9, 2003.
The National Mediation Board is an independent Federal agency established by the Railway Labor Act, which governs labor-management relations of nearly 500 railroads and 100 airlines in the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and the US territories. The other members of the Board are Ms Elizabeth Dougherty, and Mr. Harry R. Hoglander.
