BURLINGTON, Vt. — Sen. Patrick Leahy wants Customs and Border Protection officials to work with state representatives to help restore Amtrak service between Vermont and Montreal.

The Vermont Democrat asked the agency’s commissioner, Alan Bersin, at a Senate subcommittee hearing Tuesday whether Bersin would support opening a passenger inspection station in Montreal. That would help alleviate the types of inspection backups experienced at the border in New York and pave the way for restoration of service in Vermont.
