OTTAWA — About 300 people have to trek through the bush Sunday night when a fire broke out on a Via Rail passenger train near Ottawa.

Police and firefighters were called to where the train stopped near the community of Richmond, southeast of Ottawa, just after 8 p.m. Two engineers reportedly suffered minor injuries due to the electrical fire in the engine car on the Toronto-to-Ottawa train.

Fire officials say the passengers had to walk about two kilometres out of the bush before they boarded buses to be taken to Ottawa.

The train, which left Toronto at 3:35 p.m. ET, had been expected to arrive in Ottawa at 8:11 p.m. ET.
