ALBANY, N.Y. — Amtrak’s domed sightseeing car will give leaf-peepers a spectacular view of the foliage in northern New York this fall.
The historic “Great Dome” rail car makes a special four-week return appearance from September 23 through October 24. Amtrak worked with the state Department of Transportation and National Park Service Rails and Trails program to bring its only Dome Car back to upstate New York.
The car features an upper level with windows on all sides as well as overhead to provide passengers with panoramic views of the Adirondacks and Champlain Valley as the train travels from Albany to Montreal.
The refurbished vintage car dates back to 1955. It will operate northbound from Albany on Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays and return south from Montreal on Fridays, Sundays, and Tuesdays.
