WASHINGTON — Virginia Railway Express is expecting normal service for the ride home — which is a lot better than what commuters got this morning.

One train on the Manassas Line was about an hour late, which, in turn, forced VRE to cancel another run, which uses that equipment. But word didn’t get out too well because — in an ironic touch — most VRE staffers were on trains, handing out customer surveys.

The railroad blames the problems on flood-related speed restrictions imposed by the freight companies that own the tracks.

Riders who didn’t get to fill out a survey — or were too angry to do it — can fill it out on the railroad’s Web site at VRE.org.
