CLEVELAND, March 23 — The West Virginia AFL-CIO joined 15 other state labor federations in passing a resolution condemning the implementation of remote control train operations in the rail industry.
The West Virginia resolution, similar to the others, asks that the Federal Railroad Administration develop comprehensive regulations governing the use of remote control locomotives.
BLET West Virginia State Legislative Board Chairman Jimmy Worles thanked the West Virginia AFL-CIO for passing the resolution. Chairman Worles especially thanked state AFL-CIO President Jim Bowen and Secretary-Treasurer Kenny Perdue for their work. He noted that Bowen has been involved with the remote control issue for many years through his work in the steel industry and “understands the dangers involved.”
The 15 other AFL-CIO state federations are: Arizona; Texas; Michigan; Nevada; North Carolina; Missouri; North Dakota; Nebraska; Wisconsin; Georgia; Illinois; Pennsylvania; Kentucky; Alabama; and Iowa.
