According to a disturbing report from the Washington Post, the so-called U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is using a new artificial intelligence tool to slash federal regulations, with the goal of eliminating half of Washington’s regulatory mandates by January 2026.

The AI tool, called the “DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool,” is supposed to analyze roughly 200,000 federal regulations to determine which can be eliminated because they are no longer required by law, according to a PowerPoint presentation obtained by The Post.

In the railroad industry it’s often said that rules and regulations are written in blood. It’s disturbing that regulations that safeguard railroaders and the public could be eliminated by individuals and artificial intelligence searches.

In a recent interview with America’s Work Force Union Podcast, BLET National President Mark Wallace said that many rail safety regulations were established in response to tragic accidents, and weakening these rules could lead to increased risks. He condemned the ongoing push to eliminate rail safety regulations and said there is a need for continued vigilance and advocacy to maintain these crucial safeguards for workers and the public.
