HARTFORD, Conn. — The day’s whipping winds have damaged some of Metro-North Railroad’s overhead wires in Port Chester, N.Y., causing 15-minute delays for the remainder of the morning rush hour on the New Haven Line.

Metro-North spokesman Dan Brucker said that both east- and westbound trains are affected by the delays.

“The wind carried debris that fell on the overhead wires,” he said. “This is not good.”

Brucker said that a crew is attempting to loop the broken wire out of the way to allow trains to coast past the trouble spot with their pantographs in the retracted position. Later, permanent repairs will be made, he said.

The National Weather Service is reporting wind gusts of about 45 mph this morning in the region.
