TOLEDO, Ohio — An unidentified railroad worker was hurt seriously yesterday when he was struck by a moving railcar in the CSX Transportation rail yard in Lake Township, authorities said.
The man, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was trapped under the railcar for about 30 minutes after being struck about 3:20 a.m., including a 20-minute rescue effort by Lake Township firefighters, Fire Chief Eric Larson said.
The man was flown to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly Medical College of Ohio Hospital, with “very serious” injuries, the chief said.
The accident occurred near the classification hump at CSX’s Stanley Yard, south of Walbridge Road between East Broadway and Tracy Road.
