SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A worker suffered frostbite Tuesday afternoon when a refrigerant escaped from a rail tanker on Indian & Ohio Railway tracks near South Burnett Road, spraying a white cloud into the air for more than two hours. An explosion was reported around 2:30 p.m. in the 1240 block of South Burnett Road on tracks owned by the Indiana & Ohio Railway Co., which led to an active hazmat scene. Superior Carriers workers were on top of the car, getting ready to transfer the refrigerant from the rail tanker to a road trailer. The refrigerant was R124a, and not Freon as was originally reported.
