NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A workman was killed over the weekend when he was pinned beneath a train car near the CSX coal storage in Newport News.

Brian Lee Keith, 21, was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital shortly after noon Saturday. A hospital spokesman said Keith was pronounced dead later Saturday afternoon.

Leo Edwards, area director for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), said the office was investigating the industrial fatality but would not provide information on the incident or the investigation.

Police spokesman Harold Eley said the accident happened between noon and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday near the CSX train line’s coal storage at Terminal Avenue, near the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel. Eley said Keith was conscious when he was airlifted to the hospital.
