(The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce posted the following story on its website on May 20.)

OLYMPIA — Judy Giniger is the new director of the state Public Transportation and Rail Division.

Secretary of Transportation Doug MacDonald named Giniger of West Seattle to the post yesterday. She has been with the WSDOT since 2001, serving in a series of management positions. Most recently, she worked with Sound Transit to coordinate projects, such as helping build the agency’s Regional Express bus system.

MacDonald said he expects public transportation and railroads to play larger roles in Washington’s transportation system. This includes supporting Amtrak’s Cascade service, expediting rail freight service and working with transit agencies to support van pooling and park-and-ride projects.

Giniger, said she is excited about working to improve integration of transportation services. She replaces Jim Slakey, who retired in April.
