Rail unions file petition against FRA over crews crossing from Mexico into the United States
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) and the International Association of Sheet Metal Air, Rail and Transportation Workers Transportation Division (SMART TD) have filed a joint petition challenging actions of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) that allow crews comprised of Mexican nationals employed by a Mexican rail company to operate trains across the United States border and into the U.S. instead of American crews employed by American railroads.

The Rail Workers Hazardous Materials Training Program is hosting four rail worker training sessions in the coming months. The dates are as follows: November 11-16, 2018; January 6-11, 2019; February 3-8, 2019; and March 17-22, 2019.

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) has reached a tentative contract agreement with the South Buffalo Railway Company (SBRR). Ballots were mailed on August 28 to active members of the BLET employed by the SBRR who are eligible to vote in the ratification of this agreement.

Open Enrollment for the BLET’s Short Term Disability On-The-Job (Part B) insurance will end on August 31, 2018. Those who enroll will have their coverage take effect on September 1, 2018.

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) has reached a tentative contract agreement with the Springfield Terminal Railway (STR). Ballots were mailed on August 22 to active members of the BLET employed by the STR who are eligible to vote in the ratification of this agreement.
Hotel deadline is August 26 for 2018 BLET Fourth National Convention
Delegates, visitors and other guests planning to attend the Fourth National Convention of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) later this year are advised that hotel reservations must be made by 5:00 p.m. PDT on Sunday, August 26, 2018. The convention will be held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. After that deadline passes, all guest rooms in the BLET block will be returned to the Rio for re-sale and the BLET will no longer be able to guarantee room availability. Additionally, rooms that may be available after that date cannot be booked with the BLET discounted convention rate.
