PLANO, Texas — Cleanup continues in Plano after 18 cars of a Kansas City Southern freight train derailed.

No injuries were reported in yesterday’s accident.

A Kansas City Southern statement says five of the 18 derailed cars overturned. The statement says the cars contained ash.

Plano police Division Chief Bob Acker said none of the derailed cars carried hazardous materials, and there were no evacuations.

The biggest inconvenience involved traffic, because the derailment occurred around a crossing on heavily traveled Jupiter Road.

A KCS spokeswoman says there’s no word on when that crossing will be reopened. But she says the main rail line will reopen late tonight.
