NICOMA PARK, Okla. — The FBI is investigating the vandalism of tracks on a railroad bridge in Nicoma Park.
Authorities said someone targeted the structure just west of Hiawassee Road and Northeast 23rd St. approximately two weeks ago. The solid-wood bridge is about 50 feet tall and spans a creek.
FBI officials declined to comment on exactly what damage was done to the tracks. However, agents said the damage was severe.
“(It) does appear to be designed to derail a railroad car — and if one would have went by, it probably would have been derailed on this bridge,” said Agent Gary Johnson.
Crews fixed the damage a few hours before a train was scheduled to travel across the tracks.
Investigators are offering a $10,000 reward for any information related to the vandalism.
Officials asked anyone with information to call the FBI hotline at 290-7770. Callers may remain anonymous.
