A direct attack on the Railroad Retirement Pension program, contained in the Republican U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget, passed the U.S. House of Representatives, 228-191, last March. It stated, “conform Tier 1 pensions to equal those of Social Security,” affecting all rail retirees, spouses and rail employees, and which would drastically cut current pensions by up to half of current annuities, reduce disability benefits and totally abolish the “60/30 retirement program for all railroad employees.
