CHICAGO — Federal agents have charged a 35-year-old Alaska man with making bomb threats that caused an Amtrak train to be evacuated earlier this week.
Michael David Conwill of Anchorage, was scheduled to appear in federal court in Chicago on Friday afternoon. He was charged by federal agents in Madison, Wis., with making several calls to 911 claiming there was a bomb on a train in Wisconsin that was headed to Chicago on Tuesday.
Nearly 300 passengers were evacuated and stranded for more than six hours as explosives experts and dogs searched the train. Some fireworks were found.
Conwill was a passenger on the train and used his wireless phone to make the calls, according to the complaint filed by the FBI.
Authorities tracked him through the telephone he used, and he was arrested Thursday night at Union Station in Chicago.
