BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — A New Jersey man was arrested Wednesday after his mother reported to his hometown police that he had made threats against an Amtrak station in Brattleboro.
Vermont State Police and Brattleboro police arrested Christopher R. Greene, 41, of Montclair, N.J. He was being held at the state prison in Springfield awaiting a hearing on whether he should be extradited to New Jersey to face charges.
Phone calls to state and local police were not immediately returned and it was unclear what charges he was wanted for in New Jersey. Montclair police and Essex County prosecutors did not return several phone calls seeking comment Wednesday evening.
Vermont state police said in a news release that they were alerted by Montclair police Tuesday evening. The New Jersey police department said a woman had walked into their offices with what was described as a Mini-14 rifle that she said belonged to her son.
“She also alleged that he had some documentation at their residence which seemed to indicate that he was threatening some sort of tumultuous behavior against an Amtrak station in the Brattleboro area,” state police said in a statement.
Montclair police obtained an arrest warrant after searching the residence and alerted their Vermont counterparts.
Greene was spotted at about 2 p.m. driving on U.S. Route 5 in Brattleboro. He was stopped by Brattleboro officers and state troopers, who took him into custody.
