Through the first 46 weeks of 2023 (ending Nov. 18), total North American carload and intermodal traffic decreased 3.1% from the same point last year, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported Nov. 22. For the week ending Nov. 18, 2023, U.S. Class I railroads moved a total of 501,416 carloads and intermodal units, up 4.0% from the prior-year period, according to the AAR.
