Union Pacific said it made $1.64 billion, or $2.69 per share, in the first quarter of 2024. That’s higher than last year’s $1.63 billion, or $.2.67 per share. Shipping volume was down 1% in the quarter. Union Pacific said it generated $6.03 billion in revenue, down slightly from last year’s $6.06 billion. The railroad said it was able to hold down expenses 3% at $3.66 billion. That included a 14% drop in fuel expenses to $658 million in the quarter.
